Seeker [LV6] has been created for the Arenberg Festival 2018 in Leuven. The festival honors the noble history of the site, while also looking at the future via it’s current use as a campus for the Faculty of Engineering Sciences (University of Leuven). Over the course of a month Seeker [LV6] was conceptualised and built by a local team of 40 participants and with the support of local organisations. The creation process of Seeker [LV6] followed an interdisciplinary bottom-up approach to bring together the technical, ecological and societal aspects in an integrated system. This resulted in a modular honeycomb architecture with hydroponic systems and a locust colony to grow food, waste treatment systems, living and sleeping quarters to provide basic amenities and a monitoring system to be able to track the vitals . During the opening weekend of the Arenberg Festival an isolation mission took place, during which the participants needed to rely on the systems that they created and could only communicate with the outside world through a mission command centre situated elsewhere on the festival grounds. Visitors were able to monitor the participants daily activities and vital signs and could communicate with them via text messages.
